Taboo GT - Antenna in the Wing Installation Steps
1. I use 0.010" spring steel (music) wire for all my 72M antennae. It is very light and stiff enough to be able to push it into the slit in the foam. In general, any thin wire will do for your antenna.
2. Start by folding the aileron down (disconnect the aileron pushrod if you can). Make a slit in the foam with X-acto knife a few mm deep. Try to make a straight cut right in the middle of the exposed foam. Make a hole in the corner near the aileron root for running the wire through the skin to the bottom of the wing. If you are using a similar spring wire to what is shown here, make a sharp 90 degree bend a few inches from one end of it. This sharp bend will be located at the exit hole and will simplify routing the exposed end of wire towards the connector later.
3. Insert the wire through the hole first and position the sharp bend at the exit hole. You can fix the wire from sliding and moving away from the intended position at this point with a drop of foam safe CA right at the exit hole. Then carefully insert the wire into the slit, inch by inch moving towards the wing tip.
4. Bend the wire back slightly and push it into the slit. The stiffness of the spring wire comes in handy when pushing it into the foam. Be careful to not kink the wire. You can run the wire all the way to the wing tip, this is very close to the original antenna length.
5. When done inserting the wire into the foam, use foam safe CA and place a tiny drop of glue every 2-3 inches to lock the antenna wire in the foam.
6. You can use a spade knife blade or a screwdriver tip for "delivering" the glue into the slit in the foam. try to not get any glue on the hinge.
7. Route the antenna wire towards the wing connector and cut it to the exact length. The connector is glued to the bottom of the wing at this point already. Solder the antenna wire to the free pin.
8. You can either glue the exposed wire to the bottom of the wing or apply tape over it to prevent it from trembling and sliding around. Done!
