The maximum ballast capacity of Taboo GT is very high. It is possible
to fit 7 slugs under the wing (185g, 6.5oz) which is quite
a bit more than is needed for most conditions. You receive 3 slugs with the kit
if you purchase the ballast option.
Mark the CG position on the fuselage after you test fly the plane
and settle on your best CG location. The 3 slugs that will be the full
ballast load must be centered around the CG.

|
Behind the 3 slugs you
need to install a light balsa plug. Push the plug into the tailboom to the
required depth using a piece of wire to measure the depth. Drop a few drops
of thin CA onto the walls of the tailboom from inside to glue the plug to
the tailboom. Then take a wooden dowel about 1/2" (12mm) diameter and make
2 blanks to use instead of slugs when you need only 1 slug. From the same
dowel make the front plug that will go between the tailboom and the main
bulkhead. You may also have to make a small spacer that goes inside the boom
between the slugs and the front plug.

The ballast is inside the boom. The front plug has a flap for pulling it
out of the fuselage, made from a piece of clear tape.
|
|
This is what you take with you to the field in your flight box. Obviously,
when only one slug is needed you put two blanks behind and in front of it.
If two slugs are needed, put one blank in the middle. The ballast must be always
centered around the CG of the plane.

This modification to the wiring plug helps to free up the space under
the wing. Glue the connector to the bottom of the wing and shove all wiring
into the hole. The fuselage harness plugs into the connector and stays right
under the bottom of the wing and does not interfere with the ballast plug.
